Arrival in Paro
Day 1Paro · 2,250 mMeet your trekking crew and check gear, then wander Paro's painted main street to shake off the flight.
Acclimatisation: Tiger's Nest
Day 2Taktsang · 3,120 mClimb to Taktsang monastery — 900 metres of forest switchbacks to the cliff-face shrine — the ideal warm-up at altitude before the trail proper.
Genekha to Gur
Day 3Gur · 3,290 mDrive to the trailhead at Genekha village and climb through oak and rhododendron to a meadow camp at Gur, where the herders' fires scent the evening air.
Pagalabtsa Pass to Labatama
Day 4Labatama · 4,300 mCrest the ridge at Pagalabtsa La for your first sweep of the Dagala range, then contour into the high basin of Labatama, surrounded by grazing yaks and granite domes.
Day of a Thousand Lakes
Day 5Utsho Lake · 4,380 mA full day exploring the lake basin — Utsho, Relitsho, and their sister tarns — where golden trout flash in impossibly clear water and, on a windless morning, the Himalaya reflects from Kanchenjunga to Jomolhari.
Lake-Hopping to Panka
Day 6Panka · 4,000 mTraverse past a rosary of alpine lakes and over three small saddles to camp at Panka, watching for blood pheasant and Himalayan monal in the scrub.
Talakha Monastery & the Descent
Day 7Talakha · 3,080 mClimb the final pass and descend to the little monastery of Talakha, its terrace overlooking the whole Thimphu valley. Continue down to the road and into the capital for a hot shower and celebration dinner.
Thimphu at Leisure
Day 8Thimphu & ParoA gentle recovery day: Buddha Dordenma, the weekend market, and craft shopping for yathra weaves and incense. Evening drive to Paro for a farewell farmhouse dinner.
